We were staying at the New Yorker hotel which was built in the 1920’s and opened 2nd Jan 1930. Despite being on the 21st floor the view of the Hudson was still quite limited.

Being 5 hours behind we were out and walking before 9am. We walked along the edge of the Hudson River right down to Battery Gardens and then walked around the 9/11 memorial, a quick look around the Nation Museum of the American Indian and back up Broadway to the hotel. A mere 23km.

The remains of one of the piers. This area must have been very impressive in it’s hey-day with well over 80 piers along the Hudson this side of Manhattan servicing trans-Atlantic steamers as well as cargo ships.

Wondered what these high nets on one of the piers were for?

Turned out to be a golf practice area.
